Chamonix Freeride School 2017

Dates 2017: February 20-25 and March 6-11

The Chamonix Freeride School is designed to give expert skiers all the skills necessary to take their skiing or snowboarding into the big mountains. Now more than ever there is a generation of skiers who have excellent movement skills, but who lack the experience and knowledge to effectively handle the big-mountain, glaciated environment.

The Freeride School is a one-week program designed to take you from A to Z. First Light Mountain Guides incorporates the following curriculum into the 6-day format:

-AIARE 1 Avalanche Course

-Advanced crevasse rescue for skiers/boarders

-Technical ski/snowboard mountaineering skills such as cramponing, ice axe use, snow climbing, ropework, rappelling, and a host of other big mountain trickery necessary for the modern rider.

-Terrain selection and route planning

-Steep skiing/riding skills

Participants on the course are expected to have an expert level of riding. The course is not your average guided week. Participants will be in the position to plan and execute routes with the mentorship of a UIAGM Mountain Guide.

The course is based in Chamonix but we will travel within the region as necessary to access the best snow and to see a variety of terrain.

Course Cost: 800 Euros (minimum two participants)

Inclusions: Guiding from UIAGM Mountain Guide, AIARE 1 avalanche course materials, transportation, technical equipment.

Exclusion: Ski passes, housing, personal ski equipment, lunches.
